Educational Film Premiere and Musical Fundraiser
Central Bucks high schools students worked in association with Frog Pond Productions to produce an eight-minute educational film called “Be Aware of the Risks of Date Rape Drugs.” The film premieres at a fundraising event being held at Havana’s New Hope on Sunday November 19th from 1 to 5 PM. This event is free and open to the public.
Fifteen high school students from Central Bucks East, West and South high schools collaborated on this project with adult producers Elaine Pasqua and Jennifer Ellsworth. The project was produced using the school’s equipment and facilities, and with student talent, camera work and editing.
The film premieres at 1:30 and will be shown again at 3:00 and 4:30. Beginning at 2:00 musical group “Something Else” will perform featuring Charles Pellegrino on rhythm guitar and vocals, Nancy Shill Pellegrino on fiddle and vocals, Jesse Grim on lead guitar and vocals and Janice Kelly on mandolin and vocals. At 3:30 blues musician Geoffrey Caldwell will perform on guitar and vocals with Guy DeRosa on harp and Janney Thompson-Murtha on vocals, washboard and jug.
The express purpose of the premiere fundraiser is to accept tax-deductible donations to support the duplication and distribution costs of this project. The goal is to distribute the film on DVD to area schools and other organizations. To-date, all elements of this production have been made possible through volunteer and student effort. Corporate grant funding is actively being sought. “Be Aware of the Risks of Date Rape Drugs” is the first in a proposed series of videos to address Teen Dating Violence issues and concerns.
Elaine Pasqua, President of Project Prevent, comments “We used high school students to depict real life scenarios involving date rape drugs, and we’ve provided ten easy safety tips that can help young people learn to be safe. This film is educational and eye opening and a very useful tool for raising awareness about the risks of date rape drugs.”
Jennifer Ellsworth, CEO of Frog Pond Productions, says “I’m thrilled that Frog Pond Productions can help make this worthwhile project possible. It was so exciting to work with such talented young people, and in the process I certainly learned a lot about ways to be safe.”
